Geosyntec Achieves Gold Shovel Standard for Excavation Safe Practices

As we continue to enrich our safety culture in everything we do, Geosyntec has become a certified contractor with the Gold Shovel Standard. We are committed to improving the safety of our employees, subcontractors, and the public, as well as protecting the integrity of buried infrastructure.

Gold Shovel Standard is a nonprofit organization that provides third-party confirmation of Safety Management Systems for the protection of buried assets, and provides fair and transparent metrics for damage prevention. Gold Shovel Standard certified organizations can be recognized to be best-in-class.

As a condition of continued certification and participation in the Gold Shovel Standard program, all Geosyntec workers supporting or directly involved in excavation-related policies or activities must follow all applicable best practices. These best practices incorporate all federal, provincial, or state laws for the work location, and the company procedures and policies provided to Gold Shovel Standard during the application process. All workers on a job site, including any recent or new-hires, will have completed Geosyntec's basic awareness training supplement that meets the Gold Shovel Standard prior to being on any job site, including any excavation of any type or sort, and will repeat the training at least every 12 months. This includes all field laborers, supervisors, and other workers who perform duties alongside until excavation is complete. The program encourages and empowers all workers to speak up, without fear of retribution, when they observe situations that are unsafe or in conflict with this organization's policy on excavation-related work. GSS requires completion of an incident investigation, root cause analysis and corrective action plan for any incidents.
