Nick Yafrate (Massachusetts) was recognized by Waste360 as an awardee in their "40 Under 40" awards program on March 6, 2017.

Waste360's 40 Under 40 program showcases the next generation of leaders who are shaping the future of the waste and recycling industry and recognizes inspiring and innovative professionals under the age of 40 whose work has made a significant contribution to the industry. The winners are involved in many different aspects of the waste industry including landfill design, waste hauling, composting, policymaking, sustainability, and municipal initiatives.

Nick joined Geosyntec in 2008 after earning his Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of California at Davis. He works in many aspects of geotechnical and landfill design, permitting, and construction quality assurance. His recent focus has been elevated temperature landfills including developing programs to measure and map temperature distribution in landfills, understand the causes of elevated temperatures, and mitigate elevated temperatures. Additionally, he specializes in design and installation of geotechnical instrumentation to monitor stability of geotechnical structures at dozens of sites across the U.S., such mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) berms, landfill slopes, ash impoundments, dams, and sheet pile walls and is one of Geosyntec's recognized experts in the area.
