Bob Hartzel, Andrea Braga (Massachusetts), and Dan Bourdeau (Portsmouth) will present at the 28th Annual Nonpoint Source (NPS) Pollution Conference, sponsored by the New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC), at the Hotel Northampton in Northampton, Massachusetts on April 12-13, 2017.

Geosyntec's presentations will focus on recent groundbreaking projects that use advanced stormwater management tools to minimize NPS impacts on water quality.

Bob's presentation, entitled "Massachusetts Watershed Based Plans (WBPs): A New Web-Based Tool for Statewide Watershed Planning," will take place on Wednesday, April 12 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Bob will give an overview of the WBP tool, which provides maps, data, and modeling analyses for thousands of watersheds across Massachusetts instantly by simply selecting a watershed by location on a map. Bob will provide a live demonstration of the website's features and discuss potential adaptations for use in other states.

Andrea's presentation, entitled "Tools for Climate Change Adaptation and Flood Risk Management," will take place on Wednesday, April 12 from 3:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. She will discuss how innovative real-time controls have been used to retrofit an existing retention pond to minimize flooding risk, will discuss the application of real-time controls on tide gates for adaptive management, and will conclude with a discussion on an internet connected resiliency network capable of providing system-wide real-time visualizations of flood risks and recommended flood risk mitigation actions.

Dan's presentation, entitled "Integrating Long Term Operation and Maintenance into Design through Stakeholder Collaboration," will take place on Wednesday, April 12 from 3:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. He will describe how projects benefit from integrating stakeholder collaboration in the design process and will use multiple example Section 319 implementation projects to highlight how this process has worked effectively and how this process can be improved for future projects.

NEIWPCC, established by an Act of Congress in 1947, is a not-for-profit interstate agency that utilizes a variety of strategies to meet the region's water-related needs. The Commission assists member states by coordinating activities and forums that encourage cooperation among the states, developing resources that foster progress on water and wastewater issues, representing the region in matters of federal policy, training environmental professionals, initiating and overseeing scientific research projects, educating the public, and providing overall leadership in water management and protection.

The Annual Nonpoint Source Pollution Conference is the premier forum in the region for sharing information and improving communication on nonpoint source pollution issues and projects. The conference brings together all those in New England and New York State involved in NPS pollution management, including participants from state, federal, and municipal governments, private sector, academia, and watershed organizations.
