For its 35th year, the ABA Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources' (SEER) Water Law Conference will bring together government, nonprofit, and private practitioners to discuss emerging issues, hot topics, and recent developments in water law and policy.

Abstract

Your local groundwater is contaminated. What are the implications for your city's drinking water, treatment facilities, and local rivers? Do these pollutants interact either with each other or with the local geology, and what implications might those interactions have for water quality and environmental regulations? While the laws governing water quality are important, water practitioners must also understand the science of water quality to best advise their clients regarding the Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, CERCLA, and similar state and local water quality laws. This panel of technical experts will provide both new and veteran water lawyers with an opportunity to improve their water science literacy. Panelists will discuss key scientific concepts that practitioners encounter while working on water quality laws, including surface and ground water hydrology, water chemistry, pollutant fate and transport, and pollution control and remediation.
