Geosyntec to Present at A&WMA Specialty Conference on Vapor Intrusion, Remediation, and Site Closure
Geosyntec professionals will deliver a number of presentations at the Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA) Specialty Conference on Vapor Intrusion, Remediation, and Site Closure. The conference, entitled "Balancing Technical Defensibility, Risk, Sustainability, and Costs," will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton San Diego Mission Valley in San Diego, California on December 7-8, 2016.
The Air and Waste Management Association (A&WMA) organizes this specialty conference on important technical considerations involving the vapor intrusion (VI) pathway, site remediation, and advancing the process of site closure. The conference brings together scientists, engineers, regulators, and attorneys with experience in the sustainability and technical issues that need to be considered for site closure.

AIR-268: Data Evaluation for Vapor Intrusion Studies

This course introduces various data analysis procedures for evaluating vapor intrusion (VI) data sets, with an emphasis on identifying and taking into account background VOC concentrations in the decision-making process. An overview of techniques that have been successfully applied historically (e.g., subslab/indoor/outdoor air constituent ratios and portable GC/MS analysis), along with more recent methods for identifying the source of indoor air vapors (e.g., pressure differential monitoring, pressure cycling, mass flux determinations, and building envelope air infiltration techniques) will be presented. The course will also describe data evaluation approaches for petroleum VI (PVI), including the exclusion criteria screening approach that have been incorporated in USEPA (2015), ITRC (2014), and state regulatory PVI guidance to account for vadosezone biodegradation of petroleum compounds. The role of modeling in assessing VI of chlorinated or petroleum compounds will also be discussed. The information and case studies presented in this course will help attendees learn state-of-the-practice methods for determining whether the measured concentrations in indoor air for a given VOC are the result solely of VI, background sources, or a combination of VI and background sources. No specific prerequisites are required, but the audience is assumed to be familiar with USEPA VI guidance.
