Bill Harris Co-Presented on Unmanned Aircraft Systems Applications in the Solid Waste Industry

Bill Harris (Georgia) co-presented a seminar at the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), Georgia Chapter Spring Conference at Brasstown Valley Resort in Young Harris, Georgia on April 18-20, 2016.

His presentation with Terry Pallotto of Tukuh Technologies, a tribally owned 8(a) firm, was entitled "Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Applications in the Solid Waste Industry." Bill and Terry explained how UAS, also known as UAVs, provide a cost-effective platform for a wide variety of remote sensing applications for landfill and solid waste management. UAS can be outfitted with live streaming video and terrain mapping cameras to perform tasks such as automated site inspection, orthophotography, 3D mapping and modeling, and small sensor deployment.

Bill is part of an internal Geosyntec research team which includes Brandon Mogan, Raphael Siebenmann, Thomas Bristol, Lucas Nguyen, and Adam McGuire. The team has been researching and testing innovative ways to utilize UAS capabilities to enhance Geosyntec offerings across all practice areas.

Geosyntec and Tukuh are in the process of establishing a partner/mentorship agreement that will bring together Geosyntec's engineering and consulting expertise with Tukuh's UAS experience to provide UAS capabilities to existing and future opportunities.
