Geosyntec to Present at Asia Water 2016

Phil Reidy (Malaysia) and Robert Bruce (Malaysia) will present Water Security and Land Contamination" at Asia Water 2016 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 11:15am -11:45am on April 6, 2016.

Phil and Robert's topic covers pressure and stresses on water resources continuing to increase. In Malaysia, as in many Southeast Asian countries, the response of industry and community to increased water demand is to move more towards the development of groundwater as a water supply. Historically the regulatory framework to protect groundwater resources from contamination has not been robust. As a consequence, independent development of groundwater to address water security must consider the potential that contamination plumes may be pulled from sources that are at a significant distance from the well (depending on aquifer characteristics). This movement of contaminants can not only result in impacts to the produced water but can impact adjacent properties. In other locations, regulations related to soil and groundwater contamination have developed in parallel with the move from predominant use of surface water to use of groundwater. This presentation discusses some of the technical, legal, and regulatory considerations in developing a groundwater well in an existing urban or industrial setting.

Phil will also be one of the panelists on day three of the event where they discuss Chemical Engineers in Action – Towards A Sustainable Water System for Society."
