Zahirul Islam Appointed Chairman of ASTM Geomembrane Subcommittee
Zahirul Islam (Texas) has been appointed Chairman of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Subcommittee D35.10 on Geomembranes.
The ASTM Subcommittee D35.10 develops standard test methods, specifications, guides, and practices dealing with geomembranes. A geomembrane is an essentially very low permeability synthetic membrane liner or barrier used with foundation soil, rock, earth, or any other geotechnical engineering-related material in order to control fluid (or gas) migration in a man-made project, structure, or system.
ASTM International is one of the world's largest international standards developing organizations and is considered a forum where industry and government stakeholders come together to create standards that impact people everywhere.
Zahirul 's practice focuses on design, permitting, operations, and construction of waste containment facilities for municipal wastes, industrial and hazardous wastes, coal combustion wastes, and low-level radioactive wastes. His technical specialties include slope stability evaluations, settlement analyses, geosynthetics design and installation, geomembrane durability evaluation, earthwork monitoring and testing, geotechnical investigations, and QA/QC.
