Paper by Ed Jones Receives an EPA STAA Honorable Mention

Geologist Ed Jones, Ph.D., (Houston) received a 2014 EPA Honorable Mention for Pioneering Research on Transport and Fate of Nanocopper in Water Environments.

His paper, "Fate and transport of elemental copper (Cu0) nanoparticles through porous media in the presence of organic materials," was published in Water Research and was coauthored with Dr. Cumming Su of US EPA.

The EPA's Extramural Research supports high quality research by the nation's leading scientists and engineers to improve EPA's scientific basis for decisions on national environmental issues. EPA supports leading edge extramural research in exposure, effects, risk assessment, and risk management through competitions for STAR grants, fellowships, and research contracts under the Small Business Innovative Research Program.

An Honorable Mention applies to research that: (1) may not quite reach the level described for a Level III award; (2) show a promising area of research that the Subcommittee wants to encourage; or (3) show an area of research that the Subcommittees feels is too preliminary to warrant an award recommendation (yet).
