Brandon Steets to Present a Series of Webinars on Pathogens in Urban Stormwater Systems

During the months of June and July 2015, Brandon Steets, P.E., is leading or co-presenting a series of four live webinars on the single most frequent cause of water quality impairment in the U.S., elevated fecal indicator bacteria (FIB). American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Continuing Education and ASCE’s Environmental & Water Resources Institute (EWRI) are the sponsors.  The webinars are based on the EWRI 2014 publication “Pathogens in Urban Stormwater Systems.” Brandon was a co-editor of the publication along with lead editor Jane Clary of Wright Water Engineers and co-editor Robert Pitt, P.E., Ph.D., D.WRE, of the University of Alabama. These webinars are discounted for ASCE members and designed to serve as a broad technical resource for local governments and practitioners.

Pathogens in Urban Stormwater Systems: A Practical Guide for MS4s
Thursday, June 4
11:30 AM – 1:00 PM EST
Instructors: Jane Clary, Brandon Steets, P.E

This webinar will provide an overview of the state of the practice for addressing FIB and pathogens in urban stormwater systems, including regulations, urban sources, modeling, monitoring, statistical analysis, source tracking, source controls, structural Best Management Practices (BMPs), TMDL case studies, and research needs.

Pathogens in Urban Stormwater Systems: Understanding and Identifying Sources
Tuesday, June 23
11:30 AM – 1:00 PM EST
Instructors: Robert Pitt, Ph.D., P.E., D.WRE, BCEE, Brandon Steets, P.E.

This webinar will discuss the sources of FIB and pathogens in urban stormwater, as well as novel source identification tools, which are being used both for remedy planning and to support pursuit of alternative regulatory pathways.

Pathogens in Urban Stormwater Systems: Transport of Pathogens in the Environment
Wednesday, July 8
12:00 PM – 1:30 PM EST
Instructors: Charles Rowney, Ph.D., P.Eng.,Brandon Steets, P.E.

This webinar review the fate and transport processes, data analysis methods, and modeling tools that represent the state of the practice for evaluating FIB in urban stormwater systems and their receiving waters.

Pathogens in Urban Stormwater Systems: Source Controls and Stormwater Control Measures
Friday, July 31
12:00 PM – 1:30 PM EST
Instructors: Jane Clary, Brandon Steets, P.E.

This webinar will provide a practical overview of targeted source/non-structural and structural control strategies to reduce FIB and pathogen loading from urban stormwater systems. It will also discuss key issues related to the selection, prioritization, performance, implementation constraints and costs associated with these strategies, and present recent relevant case studies.
