Judd Goodman to present a Hydromodification 101 Webinar

Judd Goodman, P.E., a Geosyntec water resources engineer based in Oakland, California, will host a webinar on September 10th at 11:00am PDT/2:00pm EDT to explore hydromodification and a step-by-step approach that water resource engineers can use to predict, model, and mitigate long-term fluvial geomorphic impacts (i.e., stream channel instability) caused by land use alteration. This webinar is presented through Forester University.

If left unmanaged, hydromodification can cause increased channel erosion, sedimentation, planform migration, and baseflow alterations which can permanently damage the surrounding environment and infrastructure. The focus of this webinar will be to examine root causes of hydromodification, key factors affecting stream stability, and potential hydrologic and geomorphic outcomes. Goodman will then present a methodology for predicting and mitigating hydromodification impacts, how to properly characterize the key factors controlling channel adjustment, and how best to incorporate these characterizations into a long-term continuous sediment transport model. The webinar will also address mitigation factors, real-world examples of hydromodification management that have worked well, and how these technical principles meet current stormwater regulations.

Mr. Goodman has ten years of experience in the planning, design, and adaptive management of surface and potable water systems. While at Geosyntec, he has focused on implementing surface water and stream improvements from both an engineering and geomorphic perspective. Judd has been involved in a variety of projects, including hydromodification planning and impact analysis, stream channel rehabilitation design, geomorphic field assessment and monitoring, erosion and sediment control inspection, design of stormwater management systems, and storm event characterization for litigation support.
