COLUMBUS, Ohio — Geosyntec staff member Tom Naymik, Ph.D., P.G., and E. Scott Bair, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Geological Sciences at Ohio State University, recently conducted a short course, "Analysis and Design of Aquifer Tests including Slug Test and Fracture Flow," for the National Ground Water Association (NGWA) at the Dublin Embassy Suites, Dublin, Ohio.

The NGWA is a non-profit organization established to advance the expertise of groundwater professionals and increase the awareness of groundwater issues through education and outreach.

The course was designed to improve participants' ability to plan and conduct aquifer testing as well as confidently analyze and interpret the data by graphical methods. The session, designed for groundwater professionals including hydrogeologists, geologists, and engineers, presented practical problem-solving techniques to teach students appropriate analysis methods for interpreting pumping and slug test data under certain hydrogeologic conditions.

Course objectives included understanding and utilizing mathematic formulations to describe groundwater flow to wells in various geologic and hydrologic conditions as well as determining site-specific values of hydraulic parameters used in contaminant characterizations, groundwater modeling studies, and remediation strategies.

Dr. Naymik's career spans 30 years with specialties in subsurface characterization, groundwater remediation, fate and transport of contamination, and model design of groundwater flow and contaminant transport. He is a senior hydrogeologist based in Geosyntec's Columbus, Ohio, office. Dr. Naymik earned his Ph.D. and B.S. degrees in geology from Ohio State University. He also earned an M.S. in geology from Louisiana State University.
