Mike Berman, Paul Brookner Author Feature on Environmental Liability Valuation for American Bar Association

Two Geosyntec practitioners have co-authored a feature on environmental liability valuation (ELV) in a newsletter published by the American Bar Association's Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources (ABA SEER).

Mike Berman, P.E., CHMM, a principal environmental engineer in Geosyntec's Maryland office, and Paul Brookner, P.G., M.B.A., a senior geologist and an Associate of the firm based in Minnesota, wrote the feature for the December 2012 issue of the ABA SEER Environmental Disclosure Committee Newsletter.

Their feature, "Defensible Cost Estimating Fundamentals in the Context of Environmental Disclosure," describes the need many clients have to specifically quantify the magnitude of costs associated with their environmental liabilities, especially for financial disclosure, insurance transactions, portfolio management, and litigation matters.

Mr. Berman and Mr. Brookner describe the systems and approaches used to comply with ELV aspects of financial reporting requirements as determined by various legal and government entities. They also provide an overview of ELV fundamental principles and discuss emerging trends affecting clients.
