Geosyntec Tests for SARS-CoV-2 in Wastewater for City of St. Augustine, Florida
Geosyntec is assisting the City of St. Augustine, Florida with testing wastewater for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Geosyntec has developed a method for testing wastewater as an early warning measurement for viral load in communities.
Public health officials and municipalities can benefit from reliable data on SARS-CoV-2 virus prevalence in their communities.
Geosyntec provides timely wastewater data to public agencies to help them make informed decisions about appropriate, community specific responses that do the most good for the population, while balancing economic impacts. Our approach is to monitor the sewer system for the flow normalized presence and concentration of SARS-CoV-2 virus. Routine monitoring requires periodic grab or proportional composite samples along targeted areas of the collection system. The frequency of sampling may be adjusted based on the occurrence of the virus in the sewage and available reported COVID-19 cases and population data. Testing will help clients understand how prevalent SARS-CoV-2 virus is in each community.
