Geosyntec Project Awarded AAEES 2020 Excellence in Environmental Engineering & Science Honor Award

The American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists (AAEES) has awarded Geosyntec's Middlefield-Ellis-Whisman (MEW) Superfund Study Area Project the 2020 Excellence in Environmental Engineering & Science Honor Award for Design.

The project is located in Mountain View, California and involves working closely with U.S. EPA and other stakeholders to update and optimize the groundwater monitoring and treatment program, develop a proactive approach to assess and address the potential for vapor intrusion into existing or planned residential and commercial buildings, and modify existing treatment system components to facilitate development.

The project was led by Susan Welt and Eric Suchomel. Susan Welt, M.P.H., P.E. (New York) is based in Massachusetts and is a Principal Engineer with 20 years of experience focused on strategic planning and risk communication, and managing the investigation and remediation of soil, groundwater, sediment, and vapor intrusion projects at industrial sites, including former manufactured gas plants, throughout the world.  Eric Suchomel, Ph.D., P.E. (California) is a Principal Environmental Engineer with more than 10 years of professional experience focused on remedial program management, site investigation and characterization, feasibility study preparation, remedial system design and implementation, remedial system optimization, and litigation technical support.

The American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists® is a not-for-profit 501(c)(6) organization serving the Environmental Engineering and Environmental Science professions by providing Board Certification to those who qualify through experience and testing. The Academy also provides training through workshops and seminars, participates in accrediting universities, publishes a periodical and other reference material, interacts with students and young professionals, sponsors a university lecture series, and rewards outstanding achievements through its international awards program.
