West Valley Cleanup Alliance, LLC Awarded $3 Billion Contract for West Valley Demonstration Project Phase 1B

West Valley Cleanup Alliance, LLC (WVCA), a BWXT-led joint venture with Jacobs Technology, Inc., an Amentum company, and Geosyntec Consultants has been awarded the contract for Phase 1B activities at the West Valley Demonstration Project (WVDP) in western New York state. Geosyntec has supported the US Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Environmental Management (EM) cleanup program since 1995.

The Office of Environmental Management stated, “Work to be performed under the new WVDP Phase 1B contract will include, but not be limited to, the demolition of remaining near- and below-grade components of the Main Plant Process Building; additional facility deactivation and demolition; contaminated soils remediation and disposition; waste management and legacy waste disposition; safeguards and security; environmental monitoring; surveillance and maintenance; and program support activities.”

“This award continues Geosyntec’s robust commitment to the DOE-EM mission and to improving the environment for future generations,” said Geosyntec’s Board Chairman and Senior Principal Rudy Bonaparte. “We are honored to partner with the extraordinary team selected to support the WVDP cleanup mission.”

The IDIQ (Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity) contract has a maximum value of $3 billion over the 10-year ordering period, and performance of task orders issued before the end of the contract ordering period shall not exceed five years beyond the end of the contract ordering period. WVDP is an approximately 150-acre site, located 35 miles south of Buffalo, New York. The site is owned by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority and is home to the only commercial spent nuclear fuel reprocessing facility to operate in the United States, which operated from 1963 to 1972. In 1980, Congress passed the WVDP Act, which required the Department of Energy to conduct a high-level waste management demonstration project at the site and transport the waste to a federal repository for disposal.

WVCA’s team includes two preselected small business subcontractors: Perma-Fix and North Wind.
