Abstract

Thorough due diligence is the key ingredient for sweet success in acquisitions and redevelopment projects, especially when vapor intrusion (VI) risks are implicated early in the process. Overlooking VI during environmental site assessments can leave stakeholders hungry for answers and exposed to costly surprises. This lively, interactive session explores how careful investigation, from preliminary environmental due diligence to advanced VI data interpretation, helps uncover hidden risks and ensures informed decision-making from multiple stakeholder viewpoints, including buyers, sellers, regulators, and community groups. Everyone from law students to seasoned attorneys will learn how to spot red flags before they become liabilities, apply the latest research and regulatory approaches, and manage long-term effectiveness of mitigation systems and institutional controls. We’ll unwrap real-world lessons and proven methods for turning complex VI challenges into sweet opportunities—no tricks, just treats for those committed to smart and successful projects.
