Kaylin McDermett Presents on PFAS History and Related Regulations
Kaylin McDermett, PhD, (Pennsylvania) presented “PFAS History and Regulatory Drivers” at the PFAS Symposium co-hosted by the Society of Women Environmental Professionals (SWEP) Three Rivers Chapter and the Air and Waste Management Association Allegheny Mountain Section. The half-day conference was held in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, on April 13, 2023.
Kaylin is a senior staff engineer who focuses on how PFAS moves and transforms in the environment. She completed her Ph.D. research at Texas Tech University where she developed a sampler to measure PFAS in subsurface porewater, studied bioaccumulation of PFAS in soil invertebrates, and researched PFAS contamination of crops due to agricultural reuse of effluent wastewater.
SWEP is a nonprofit professional association of those involved or interested in environmental law, science, business, and policy. Members include attorneys, consulting scientists and engineers, nonprofits, students, educators, government employees, and regulators. The organization encourages education and professional development, exchange of substantive information and work experiences, networking, and public service.
The Allegheny Mountain Section of the Air and Waste Management Association is the local affiliate of the International Air and Waste Management Association, serving western Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The association promotes better understanding of problems in the fields of air pollution and waste management and to provides a forum for new ideas to resolve those problems.
