Jennifer Arblaster and Travis Kline Lead Technical Webinar on PFAS Toxicology Risk and Assessment

Jennifer Arblaster and Travis Kline, MEM, BCES, will lead the webinar, “An Update on the Evolving Science and Policy of PFAS Toxicology and Risk Assessment,” on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. ET/9:00 a.m. PT.

Jennifer is a Project Scientist based in Vermont with experience in ecological and human health risk assessment, sediment site characterization, bioaccumulation modeling, and evaluation of environmental quality criteria. Jennifer evaluates ecological and human health risk issues associated with PFAS. Her work often addresses aqueous film-forming foam, aquatic toxicity and environmental screening levels for perfluorooctane sulfonate, and site-specific risk assessment of PFAS.

Travis is a Senior Principal Toxicologist based in Washington, DC, with more than 25 years of experience focused on human health risk assessment and applied toxicology. Travis is actively engaged in emerging constituent issues and is leading characterization efforts and developing positions for negotiations with the administrative authorities at multiple PFAS sites with national significance in Delaware, New York, Virginia, and North Carolina.

The Geosyntec PFAS Webinar Series provides a thorough synthesis of the state of knowledge on the management of PFAS-impacted sites. Subject matter experts from Geosyntec and the broader stakeholder community discuss PFAS technical, regulatory, and legal issues.

Abstract

This webinar will focus on advances in the state of practice and research for both human health and ecological PFAS toxicology and risk assessment. Key topics related to human health include recent changes in PFAS toxicity criteria and associated regulatory screening levels, unique approaches for assessing risk associated with other PFAS, and potential approaches for evaluating exposure pathways such as inhalation. Ecological risk assessments (ERAs) for PFAS face many of the same uncertainties and regulatory challenges as human health risk assessments. ERAs are currently, or will soon be, required at PFAS-impacted sites under CERCLA, RCRA, and other state programs. Available tools for PFAS-focused ERAs and approaches to addressing key uncertainties will also be presented.
