Geosyntec CEO Majdi Othman Honored as ASCE Fellow

Majdi Othman, PhD, PE, F.ASCE, has earned the title of Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) as one of their January 2026 class of honorees. This distinction recognizes more than three decades of his work as a leader and innovator in geoenvironmental and geotechnical engineering.

In addition to being Geosyntec’s President and CEO, Majdi is a Senior Principal Engineer based in Georgia who focuses on geotechnical, environmental, and civil engineering projects. His expertise includes geotechnical and hydrogeological investigations, site suitability evaluations, and remediation and closure of solid waste disposal units.

Rudy Bonaparte, Geosyntec’s former President, CEO, and Chairman of the Board, congratulated Majdi as follows, “Majdi is highly deserving of recognition as an ASCE Fellow for his contributions to the state of the art in geoenvironmental engineering, as well as for his exceptional engineering designs and his work as a leader of and mentor to Geosyntec employees over more than three decades.”

ASCE Fellowship is an honor attained by only three percent of ASCE Society members. Members must apply and are elected based on their professional accomplishments by the Membership Application Review Committee.

Founded in 1852, ASCE is a leading provider of technical and professional conferences and continuing education, the world’s largest publisher of civil engineering content, and an authoritative source for codes and standards that protect the public.

Learn About Majdi Othman’s Career

Majdi’s career began with groundbreaking doctoral research on protecting waste containment systems from winter freeze-thaw cycles. During his consulting career, he has pioneered sustainable designs for waste containment facilities that safeguard public health and the environment.

Notably, Majdi contributed to the design of two low-level radioactive waste disposal facilities for the United States Department of Energy and was engineer-of-record for a third. His work on more than 30 projects involving landfill-gas control and utilization has helped minimize landfill gas migration, reduce methane emissions, and generate renewable energy.

In addition, Majdi has trained and mentored hundreds of engineers and scientists, advised regulatory agencies such as the United States Environmental Protection Agency, and shared his knowledge through many presentations and technical publications. He has served as co-editor of the ASTM International (ASTM) Geotechnical Testing Journal and of Geotechnical News.

Recent awards include ASTM’s A. Ivan Johnson Outstanding Achievement Award for outstanding contributions to the ASTM D 18 Soil and Rock Committee (2024) and the ASTM Committee on Publications Service Award for Co-Editing the Geotechnical Testing Journal from 2018 through 2023. He also received the ASCE Collingwood Prize.
