Dave Major Earns John Hem Award

Dave Major, PhD, BCES, was presented the John Hem Award for Excellence in Science and Engineering from the National Ground Water Association (NGWA). He received his award during Groundwater Week in Las Vegas, Nevada, on December 11, 2024.

Dave is a Senior Consultant at Savron, a Geosyntec Company. With more than 30 years of experience, he has helped develop, demonstrate, and apply monitored natural attenuation, enhanced in situ bioremediation, and zero-valent-iron permeable reactive barriers. He has also helped commercialize the use of biomarkers, bioaugmentation for solvents, and smoldering combustion of heavy hydrocarbons (STAR technology).

The John Hem Award is presented in recognition of a significant scientific or engineering contribution to the understanding of groundwater. The award is presented annually for a significant contribution to either a single publication or a body of work.

The NGWA advocates for the responsible development, management, and use of water, offering education and outreach, advocacy, cooperation and information exchange, and enhancement of professional practices.

Groundwater Week, organized by the NGWA, is a major gathering of groundwater professionals that drives innovation in the industry. It features educational sessions, networking events, and more than 250 exhibitors from leading companies.
