Alena Raymond to Present on Avoided Methane Emissions Accounting at the Annual Meeting of the American Center for Life Cycle Assessments
Alena Raymond, PhD, (California) will discuss the implications of avoided methane emissions accounting and life cycle assessments (LCA) for biofuels. She will also address what a potential phase-out of avoided methane crediting could mean to LCA practitioners and consultants, as well as to biofuels producers and investors. Alena will present at the American Center for Life Cycle Assessment’s (ACLCA’s) 2023 Conference on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at 8:30 a.m. EDT.
Alena is an engineer based in California who specializes in LCAs. She has experience developing corporate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventories, identifying decarbonization strategies, assessing product carbon footprints, and preparing environmental product declarations. Alena will be joined at the conference by her Geosyntec colleagues, Russell Hyatt (New York), Jeremy Luebke (Wisconsin), and Vaidehi Zanwar (Texas).
ACLCA 2023 provides programs, facilitated discussions, and events to discover and share the tools and insights to transform environmental sustainability using LCA and life cycle thinking.
The ACLCA is a nonprofit organization that provides education, awareness, advocacy, and communications to build capacity and knowledge of environmental LCA. ACLCA members are professionals who work in industry, academia, government, consulting, and nongovernmental organizations.
Presentation Summary
Alena’s presentation will provide updates about potential methane crediting associated with LCAs for biofuels, including the following:
- Biofuels and avoided methane emissions
- LCAs for biofuels
- Carbon intensity of biofuels
- Argonne National Laboratory’s greenhouse gases, regulated emissions, and energy use in technologies (GREET®) model
- California Air Resources Board (CARB) Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) and additional clean fuel programs
