To comply with the Clean Water Act and other legislation, clients need to collect right data, understand relevant regulations and permitting requirements, and build informed regulatory strategies.

We support permit applications, reviews, and modifications and assist with permitting and enforcement negotiation. We also conduct program monitoring and modeling for surface- and groundwater, wetlands, and aquatic life.

Our water-resources engineers and scientists, ecologists, statisticians, risk assessors, and wastewater- and stormwater-treatment experts work across all United States Environmental Protection Agency regions. In addition, we are active in national and state associations that advocate on behalf of municipal and industrial wastewater and stormwater dischargers and other regulated industries and businesses.

Plan For Future Regulations

To comply with changing regulatory requirements, clients must submit complete and accurate permit applications and rapidly respond to necessary utility changes. By providing complete information, we can help clients expedite the process, reduce the need for the permit writer to make conservative assumptions, and avoid accepting permit limits that cannot be met. Geosyntec also works with clients to keep them informed of regulatory changes and make plans to reduce the compliance costs associated with current and future permit conditions.

Negotiate Favorable Terms for Noncompliance

With every permit, there is a risk of noncompliance that, in turn, can result in state or federal enforcement actions, third-party lawsuits, or both. Geosyntec works with clients to evaluate these situations, establish corrective actions and mitigation strategies, and negotiate settlements, including supporting litigation, when necessary.

Collect the Right Data and Information

Having the right amount of high-quality data can mean the difference between no permit requirements, monitoring only, or effluent limits. Special studies can be negotiated to be special condition in a permit that then informs development of appropriate permit limits. Geosyntec works with clients to assess data gaps before permit applications and develop approvable quality assurance project plans. In addition, we train facility staff to conduct some monitoring on their own and provide experienced field crews and equipment for monitoring, as is most appropriate.
