In his article, he discusses the more traditional methods of monitoring the structural integrity of offshore wind energy structures, including visual inspections and flooded member detection, before moving on to more efficient means, such as accelerometers.

Duncan has more than 20 years of experience as a Technical Safety Engineer. His focus is in the areas of major hazards management on offshore and onshore oil and gas production and processing facilities. In terms of his work within the renewables sector, Duncan has presented on safety engineering topics at both RenewableUK and Engineers Ireland in the context of extending offshore oil and gas risk management methodologies to offshore renewable energy projects. He has also presented on work performed on offshore wind turbine foundations at Oceanology International. Duncan represents MMI Engineering, a division of Geosyntec.
